WildBlue Outdoor Equipment Installation Options

Wall Mount, Pole Mount, and Custom Solutions

WildBlue provides a sturdy, three point wall/roof mount kit with every system at no extra cost. This kit can be used in a number of ways.

Wall and Deck Mounts

The photographs shown above illustrate typical three-point wall mounts. WildBlue provides this type of mounting kit, called a trimast mount, at no extra charge. NOTE: On no account must the dish itself be painted or otherwise coated with anything!

Pole Mounts

Pole mounts as shown below are not provided by WildBlue, and come at extra cost over the standard installation fee. All StarLAN CS-designed pole mounts are heavily over-engineered to provide the utmost in stability and lightning resistance. Note the three 1/2" anti-rotation rods spaced 10" apart and at right angles to one another. Heavy duty copper ground clamps are standard, and 5/8" copper-clad grounding rods are used when warranted. PVC cable sweeps - used to protect the transmit/receive cable pair from weed whackers and string trimmers - are provided as needed.

WildBlue is somewhat unique in that they specify a pole that will not actually fit their dish mount. WildBlue pole specs call for 2" inner diameter (ID) galvanized water pipe. This works out to 2/38" for an outer diameter (OD). The WildBlue mount is designed for a 2" OD tube. If a pole mount is required, then we must also factor into the cost a $30.00 2 3/8" to 2" adapter. Why the disparity and why the adapter? Because the tube wall thickness of 2" galvanized water pipe makes for a far more rigid pole, thus minimizing pole sway. The tube wall thickness of, say, 2" OD aluminum fencepost is quite thin by comparison - WildBlue (or any satellite Internet system for that matter) dishes will sway quite a bit more on such a thin-walled pole. The consequence: poor signal to noise ratio and reduced transmission speed due to higher bit error rates. Obviously, you don't want that.

Custom Mounts

Custom dish mounts using either a StarLAN-provided pole or other custom means run extra. We can, for example, use an older existing C-band antenna pole for a WildBlue installation. These adapters are hand-machined, robust and absolutely straight, thus insuring extremely accurate and stable antenna alignment. Mounts on brick, cement or masonry require additional labor and materials and are priced accordingly.
